Sorry to be so long in updating this information but I have been fortunate enough over the last year to have the opportunity to speak each semester at the college of nursing at Keiser University here in FL to both the ASN and BSN students on ethics, safety and quality in Healthcare. It is wonderful to speak to these students who want so much to make a difference in people’s lives.
I also have been invited to speak once a quarter over the last several years to healthcare providers at Mission Senior Living, headquartered in Reno NV and with senior living and memory care homes in the west, southwest and northwest. What a mission-based and wonderful group of health care providers. I am constantly challenging and being challenged by these great people and those they have the privilege to serve.
And finally, over the last three years I have been able to speak regularly to the healthcare providers partnered with Family Health and wellness with 16+ programs around the country for young people with mental and emotional needs. What a challenge these providers face and deliver on each and every day.

Thank you for your article revealing the gross discrepancy between Medicare ratings and actual conditions in America’s nursing homes. It is literally the tip of a very dirty iceberg. Yes, ANY quantitative approach to quality—going back to the revered W. Edwards Deming—can be gamed. Period!
Emeritus Corporation is an operator of senior living communities in the United States. Emeritus operates a portfolio of communities, which are purpose-built for services including assisted living, specialized (Alzheimer's and dementia) care, and in-home nursing. The story here is good, baby boomers getting older will seek out senior living and Emeritus is well positioned to capitalize on this trend. The true story, however, appears much darker.
PBS exposes Assisted Living Facility dangers you should know about before you select a home for yourself or a loved one. Frontline's 4-part series, which aired last week, focuses on one family's tragic story at an assisted living facility in CA. Even sadder than this one story is that the owner of the facility--Emeritus, the largest owner of ALFs in the country, it is not the worst in the industry. It is AVERAGE and that is the saddest thing about this one family's story--care, service, and safety in the assisted living industry are, on average BAD.
Below was a presentation to one of our clients. We we are following up with other clients as we craft test projects at the community level to focus on improving customer service at the grass roots based on actual experience and studies in many different industries. 2-3 day in-service then a launch with a selected number of specifically selected communities, with 3-6-9-12 month metrics against which to measure success.
